The mystery surrounding the genesis of crystal skulls has inspired debate about the paranormal.
Crystal skulls aren’t all that mysterious or extraordinary. Germany, China, and Brazil all produce thousands of them each year. But for more than a century, a few of these fairly horrifying artifacts have generated a great deal of interest and discussion among archaeologists, biologists, spiritualists, and museum officials.
These rare crystal skulls are only found in a dozen pieces, and they are in both private and public collections. Some are crystal clear, while others are smokey or colored quartz. Others are smaller and less talented, while some are larger and contain exceptionally fine detail. All are believed to have originated in Mexico or Central America.
Many people believe that these skulls were carved by an ancient Mesoamerican civilization thousands or perhaps tens of thousands of years ago. Others think these might be treasures from the legendary Atlantis or proof that aliens visited the Aztecs before the Spanish invasion.
Crystal Skulls Mystery Supernatural Fascination
Stories about the skulls place a lot of emphasis on their alleged mystical qualities.
Joshua Shapiro, coauthor of Mysteries of the Crystal Skulls Revealed, claims that many people who have come into contact with such skulls have had healings and heightened psychic abilities.
He says, “We believe the Crystal Skulls are a sort of computer that can record the energy and vibration that take place around them. The skull holds the history of our planet and visually reenacts all encounters or recollections of those who have come into contact with it.
Most scientists and archaeologists are skeptical, to put it mildly.
Given that skulls were widely used as subject matter in pre-Columbian Mesoamerican art, particularly among the Aztec, the connection between these artefacts and these civilizations makes sense.
Michael Smith, an anthropology professor at Arizona State University, claims that “[I]t was] a metaphor of regeneration.” “They were probably making a number of the numerous Aztec gods, symbolized by skulls. I don’t think they were supposed to have any particular powers.”
Crystal Skulls Fake?

Additionally, after looking at skulls under an electron microscope, the British Museum and the Smithsonian Institution found markings that could only have been made using modern carving tools. Both museums place the approximate age of the skulls in the mid- to late 1800s, a time when there was a great deal of interest in historical civilizations and a need for museums to find relics to display.
The majority of the skulls were really produced in a region of Germany noted for producing stunning quartz and crystal decorations in the late 19th century, according to a study by the British Museum. The crystal, according to mythology, can only be found in Brazil or Madascar, thus pre-Columbian indigenous cultures cannot access it.
The British Museum concluded that all of the famous crystal skulls are likely fakes based on its research and the fact that no such skull has ever been found at an approved archaeological excavation.
Despite the passion on both sides of the argument, nobody is clear who made these skulls and when. Since there is currently no way to exactly determine the age of such inorganic things, the mystery will likely continue. In 2008, it gained momentum thanks to the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: The sequel.
